Are teachers craftsmen or scientists?

For many people, teachers can be considered craftsmen and craftswomen in the classroom because they create a craft over and over. We, as teachers, do not modernize our classes, do not pay close attention to our students’ motivation in the language and we used to be satisfied with what we teach and the material we work. Although, these “crafts” have worked through the years.

On the other hand, having in mind these negative factors, we convince ourselves to become scientists in order to explore new strategies and activities which can provide our students new possibilities of learning in a cool and witty way. Besides, changing aspects in our classrooms, students can become explorers and be interested in the language by them, looking for information without asking for that, just because they are interested in. To sum up, teachers need to be both: a craft and a scientist because they always guide and advice students.
